Atrial fibrillation (AFib) is an irregular heartbeat, that if left untreated could cause serious health problems. Now, University Health Shreveport is using the latest heart monitoring technology to record every heartbeat.

How do I know if I have Afib?

Symptoms of AFib vary, and it is important to note that some people with AFib have no symptoms. For these people, the condition is only detectable through a physical examination. Others with AFib may experience one or more of the following symptoms:
  • General fatique
  • Rapid and irregular heartbeat
  • Fluttering or "thumping" in the chest
  • Dizziness
  • Shortness of breath and anxiety
  • Weakness
  • Faintness or confusion
  • Fatigue when exercising
  • Sweating
  • Chest pain or pressure
Chest pain or pressure is a medical emergency, as you may be having a heart attack. If you are experiencing chest pain or pressure, call 9-1-1 immediately.
